Why is access to the online catalog, ABIGAIL, "forbidden" on my browser?

The vendor who hosts our catalog has implemented heightened security measures - in the form of IP range blocks - due to some malicious events on their end, and these are likely causing the access issue you encountered on your devices. If you can provide us with your IP address and your Internet Service Provider then, hopefully, the vendor can revise their block list accordingly. You can find your public-facing IP address by visiting www.whatismyip.com, and it will look something like this: 76.160.13.162. Send that information to us at library@masshist.org and then we can supply it to the vendor who can work on resolving the problem.

In the meantime, run through all of the standard IT steps to see if they help the problem at all:

  • try a different browser (using Chrome? try Firefox)
  • then a different device (a different PC or try it on mobile)
  • try it at a different location on a different network (home v. university)
